The Center for International Business is unique in that it is not a department. As such, faculty members represent relevant disciplines from across the College of Business Administration.
Dr. Dennis Chen
Dr. Chen comes to Belmont with an extensive corporate background in the consumer products industry. He has held various engineering, R&D, and operations management positions at several multi-national corporations, including SCA, Paragon Trade Brands (a former division of Weyerhaeuser), and Procter and Gamble. Dr. Chen’s professional experience also includes a two year international assignment and green-field start up of a joint venture factory outside Shanghai, China, and being awarded U.S. Patent 7,838,721 for “Disposable Articles Using High Column AUL Superabsorbents”. His current research interests are in the area of supply chain relationships, supply chain social responsibility, and lean Six Sigma implementation. He has several working papers targeted at the Journal of Business Logistics and the Journal of Operations Management and has published in Knowledge Management & E-Learning: An International Journal.
Dr. Howard Cochran
Dr. Cochran has been teaching international economics and business courses both domestically and abroad since joining Belmont University in 1989. Cochran has a B.B.A. (Finance) from Walsh College, a M.A. (Economics) from Wayne State University, a Doctor of Arts (Economics) from Middle Tennessee State University, and has completed additional post-graduate study in administrative leadership at Harvard University.
Mr. Jose Gonzalez
Mr. Gonzalez graduated from the Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico (ITAM), Mexico City, with a B.S. in Accounting. He earned his M.B.A. from The Jack C. Massey Graduate School of Business at Belmont University and taught international business and entrepreneurship at Belmont University in an adjunct capacity for several years before joining the faculty on a full-time basis in 2007. He has business experience with companies in the United States, Canada, Mexico, China and other Latin American countries. Most notably, he worked earlier in his career for Organization BAMA and Procter and Gamble. He is also a co-founder of Conexion Americas, a non-profit organization that works toward promoting the social and economic integration of Hispanic families in the Middle Tennessee community.
Dr. Jeffrey Overby
Dr. Overby is Director of International Business Programs for the College of Business Administration. He also teaches International Business, Advanced Marketing Management, and International Market Entry. Prior to joining Belmont in 2005, Dr. Overby worked five years as Assistant Professor of Marketing and International Business at Florida State University, four years as a graduate assistant at the University of Tennessee, and six years as European Project Manager and Market Research Analyst for Entergy Corporation. He also teaches each summer in London, England and Valencia, Spain. Overby has a B.S. (French and International Business) from Mississippi State University, a M.B.A. from Millsaps College, and Ph.D. (Marketing) from the University of Tennessee. His research interests include the influence of culture upon marketing and customer behavior, customer value, and international branding.
Dr. J. Patrick Raines
Dr. Raines was named Dean of the College of Business Administration at Belmont University in 2003. Prior to joining Belmont, he taught at the University of Richmond and was instrumental in developing the curriculum and study abroad programs for the International Business program at Richmond. Raines was a Fulbright Scholar at the College of the Bahamas, nominated as the Outstanding Educator for the State of Virginia, and in 1993, he led one of the first industrial development groups to the former Soviet republics to establish educational and industrial relationships with emerging market enterprises.
Dr. Marieta V. Velikova
Dr. Velikova teaches economics and international business courses in the College of Business Administration. She received her undergraduate degree from the People's Friendship University of Russia. Her M.A. in Financial Economics and Ph.D. in Applied Economics were both earned at Mississippi State University. Velikova advises the student International Business Society.
Dr. Sehyun Yoo
Dr. Yoo teaches capital markets and international business finance. He earned his B.S.(Economics) with First Class Honour from the University of Buckingham in the U.K. and a bilingual M.B.A from I.E.S.E. in Spain. He received his Ph.D. (Finance) from Temple University, Pennsylvania after having worked for a securities company as a market analyst and asset manager. His research interests include international corporate governance, international equity investment and project financing.
