Why did you decide to study business?
Growing up, I would do business with other kids and make a profit by buying and reselling, so I knew from childhood that business was an area where I could excel and create opportunities. I also found myself intrigued and enticed by the concepts and practices of businesses in the United States. Having lived in China, it was fascinating to see how coherent and professional many of the businesses were, especially the people; rarely did I see people in suits in China.
Why did you decide to study business at Belmont?
Belmont has a very strong business program that has proved to be of high value. Belmont also offers majors for the areas I am interest in — International Business and Information Systems Management. Information technology professionals will always be in demand, and studying ISM will open new career opportunities throughout the world. Globalization is happening more everyday and we need to learn how that is affecting us. Belmont's program does a good job of addressing the international business environment.
Has it been what you expected?
I expected to get a good education at Belmont, and I have. The classes, professors and environment have made the acquisition of information simple and unique. Through the International Business program, I have been able to learn more about different cultures and viewpoints, and my ISM education has already provided me with the opportunity to work in a corporate environment.
What have been some of your best Belmont College of Business experiences?
I love how I can interact with my professors in and out of the classroom and learn from their successes, their mistakes, their methods, and their perspectives on many issues. My business professors have challenged me to think outside the box. With the environment being more social within smaller classrooms, I am able to meet and exchange ideas with other students with more ease. Likewise, having a distinct background of cultures and languages, I have still found many students that share common interests and values. With the help of the College of Business, I have been able to experience many business/IT-related positions outside of the campus. At this moment, I am working for the Hope Clinic for Women pregnancy center as a network administrator.
What do you want to do with your degree?
I plan to do a lot with my degree. My goals include the following:
1) Go to graduate school with a concentration in Economics
2) Start a hospital/clinic in China in the field of medical tourism; this will help hundreds of thousands of Chinese and foreigners who need better and more efficient health care
3) Decrease world poverty by using my economic knowledge to give countries and its people more choices
4) Pursue an academic career in teaching business or English in another country such as China, South Korea or Japan.
Why would you recommend the program to others considering Belmont?
Belmont has very good instructors that strive to help students excel and bring out the best in them. I would like to thank all of my professors who have challenged my thinking, especially Dr. Garrison and Dr. Overby, my ISM and International Business professors and advisors who have supported me throughout my time at Belmont.
