Performance Opportunities

Theatre Experience

Musical Theatre students participate in numerous performance opportunities throughout their four years at Belmont.

Each year, students participate in two fully-staged main stage productions, one in the Troutt Theatre and one in Massey Concert Hall. All sophomores, juniors and seniors are cast in all main stage productions. Visit our current events calendar.

The freshmen showcase, created by the incoming freshmen class, showcases the newest members of the musical theatre department. Students also perform a sophomore showcase each Spring in schools and nursing homes in the community. Musical Theatre majors perform a half-hour junior recital consisting of all musical theatre repertoire as well as a 45-minute fully staged senior show which is written, directed, cast and starred in by the senior musical theatre majors. For a complete course listing, please visit the Belmont Catalog.

Opportunities in New York City

Every Fall, musical theater coordinator Nancy Allen and faculty members host the opportunity for musical theatre students to spend Fall Break in New York City. During their stay in the Big Apple, students see shows, attend a master class, meet the Belmont alumni network at a brunch and have a tour featuring information about the business side of the musical theater performer.

Each spring, the Musical Theatre seniors travel to New York City to perform three performances at the Laurie Beachman Theatre in the West Bank Cafe for invitation-only industry personnel.  In New York, the students rehearse for the performance, attend a master class and attend a Broadway production.  All graduating seniors are encouraged to participate in the showcase which is created during the Senior Capstone Course and directed by Belmont Musical Theatre faculty.  Kevin Kennison acts as our showcase advisor and liaison in New York City.

Additionally, Students have the opportunity to participate in the Belmont USA – New York City program. Belmont's Musical Theatre students flourish with the internships and opportunities provided during their semester in New York. For more information visit the Belmont USA program page.
