Engagement Initiatives

  • Support the university’s “supplier diversity program” to mutually benefit minority and women owned business and Belmont
  • Partner with department leaders to highlight and promote externally stories that reflect Belmont’s commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Meet with local media outlets that target diverse audiences to discuss partnership and advertising opportunities
  • Partner with HR individuals at local institutions to discuss recruitment and retention best practices
  • Identify sponsorship events/opportunities and co-host community meetings on campus 
  • Develop Need and Academic-based scholarships and grants specifically for diverse graduate students
  • Develop a process to track the racial and ethnic information of speakers and their presentation topics at major institutional speaking events
  • Offer diversity-focused events and programs for all faculty 
  • Create a post-doctoral fellowship program to provide an opportunity for post-doctoral students from diverse backgrounds to spend a year at Belmont researching and teaching
  • Form a faculty cohort group which will provide an opportunity to focus on a full-range of academic issues for all members of the cohort
  • Create visiting professorship program to celebrate diversity within higher education and encourage students to consider the field for a career by inviting diverse higher education administrators to spend a week on campus engaging with the Belmont community
