Mental Health

Mental and emotional well-being are closely related to physical health and are essential to the success and flourishing of each student.

Belmont University Health Services works closely with Belmont University Counseling Services to provide students with accessible, professional mental health care including mental health assessment, emergent care, and short-term solution focused treatment, as well as referral to off-campus specialists and services as needed. We strive to empower students to take charge of their health and educate them on how physical and mental health are intertwined. A nurse practitioner will meet with the student and customize a unique plan of care.

  • We strongly urge you to visit Counseling Services before scheduling with Health Services.
  • Your initial evaluation will be a 40 minute appointment with a Nurse Practitioner in the Health Services clinic.
  • The Nurse Practitioner will create a plan of care for you which may include prescription of mental health related medications, referral to psychiatrist if necessary, and/or a plan to continue care with Counseling Services
  • Mental health medications require monitoring at regular intervals. Repeated missed appointments may result in the inability of Belmont University Health Services to be your mental health provider or a transfer of care to an outside mental health service whose schedule better suits your needs.

We strongly recommend that any current prescriptions be transferred to our on-campus pharmacy or a nearby location in Nashville

  • If prescriptions or care cannot be transferred due to state restrictions, you will need to schedule an initial 40 minute appointment with a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Our Nurse Practitioners can prescribe some mental health related medications, however, you may be referred to a psychiatrist for further care.

Consider Let's Talk

Health Services does not prescribe medications or perform testing for ADD or ADHD. If your current provider is unable to continue refilling your prescription, we encourage you to find a local physician who offers these services. See more information on filling prescriptions for your ADD/ADHD medication here.
