Belmont Health Services maintains strict confidentiality of medical records in accordance with the laws of the State of Tennessee and the federal HIPAA laws. No record is released to anyone without the student’s permission. Medical records are kept until 7 years after graduation or leaving school, then they may be destroyed. Requesting any part of your medical record requires written permission (see Forms for medical release).


Belmont Health Services does not routinely notify parents or professors of illness. This is the responsibility of the student. Furthermore, written excuses are not issued. In the case of a serious illness or hospitalization, parents/guardians will be notified by the admitting physician. The Dean of Students’ staff will also be notified and professors made aware of the hospitalization.
