Professional Development

Belmont University values professional development for all of its faculty and staff.  All new staff employees attend a formal half-day orientation program in addition to training designed by their respective departments.  Other new staff workshops focus on the core competencies expected of all staff: communication, critical thinking, customer orientation, collaboration and diversity.  Numerous other online and classroom workshops are offered covering safety, legal wellness for supervisors, management and leadership, and personal and career development topics.

All new faculty employees attend a 3-day orientation including new hire and benefits information, pedagogical best practices, community service, and other faculty and teaching needs.  They are each assigned a seasoned faculty member as a mentor for their first year.  The Teaching Center offers monthly workshops and lunch discussions for faculty development and teaching improvement.  Additional online and classroom courses are offered by Human Resources for personal and professional development.

Customized departmental workshops are designed and facilitated upon request.
