Q: How are the workshops developed?
The Office of Human Resources partners with internal and external training professionals to plan professional development events and workshops. These are all intended to support the expected competencies of our employees and Belmont's values.
Q: Is there a charge?
No, for most HR workshops, there is no charge to the department or to the individual:
·New Employee essential workshops (e.g., Discovering Yourself at Belmont and Taking Care of Business)
·Essential workshops for supervisors (e.g., Sexual Harassment Awareness, Performance Management System)
·Online tutorials (e.g., FERPA, Sexual Harassment Awareness)
·New Staff Orientation
There is a charge for some workshops but the department is charged for materials and handouts only.
Human Resources pays for the development and teacher cost of the workshops. The occasional materials fee may be passed on to the department.
Q: What about the workshops and conferences offered by other Belmont Centers and departments?
Terms of registration and payment vary from event to event and are communicated by the respective provider (e.g., Center for Entrepreneurship, University College).
Q: Can I just show up for the workshops?
Seating is limited so you must sign up in advance.
Q: Why are some workshops canceled?
Workshops have minimum and maximum numbers of participants. In most cases, 12 is minimum and 24 is maximum. If there is not sufficient number of registrations 10 working days out, the class may be canceled without instructor or materials charges to Belmont.
Q: What if I have to cancel my reservation for a workshop?
Sometimes the need to cancel is inevitable. Because time, planning, and some expenses and involved, we expect employees to be consciencous about timely cancellations.
You will be expected to reschedule any required workshops.
Cancellation of User Services Computer Training classes:
- More than 2 working days in advance � no charge
- 2 working days or fewer prior to the class � Cost of the Book

Q: What about computer software classes?
Belmont's Computer Proficiency Administrator/Trainer provides ad hoc basic training geared to special needs of Belmont departments. User Services offers faculty and staff training sessions in short increments of 1.5-3 hours each. These are offered during the summer months.
