Investigations & Special Initiatives Major
How long have you worked at Belmont University? What attracted you to your job at Belmont?
I started working at the Office of Campus Security as a student worker in 1997. I worked as a part-time security officer while going to school to earn my Master’s Degree in Social Work. I moved back home to Texas for a short period in 2002 and worked as a counselor at a high school before returning to Belmont as a full time employee in 2003. I intended to work at Belmont for a brief time until I found a job in the social work field. However, my boss decided to utilize my education by creating a crime prevention program. He gave me almost complete creative freedom to develop the program as I saw fit. I love my job because I believe I make a difference in the lives of the students as well as the greater Belmont community.
What is the campus community like for staff working at Belmont?
Working at Belmont is like working with your family. We celebrate each other’s achievements, spend time together at both campus and non-campus related events, support, encourage, and help each other in times of need, and come together in times of triumph and tragedy. I feel a great sense of pride being a part of the Belmont community.
What would you say to someone who is considering working at Belmont University?
The fact that so many Belmont graduates return to Belmont to work, the fact that many high achievers in the world of entertainment, business, and politics choose Belmont as the place to teach, the fact that musicians, poets, actors, and even presidential hopefuls choose to utilize Belmont facilities for their events should indicate just how highly everyone regards this university. The old saying, “If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life,” is very true for those of us here at Belmont.
