David Tough, M.B.A.
I am originally from Springfield, MO. I started
as a musician on sax and and transitioned to drums, bass, piano and
guitar later. My first love is jazz and I received my undergraduate
in music, studying jazz drumset, from the University of North
Texas. After five long years in the Lone Star State, I made my way
to Los Angeles to work for Capitol Records, Warner Chappell Music
Publishing, BMG Music Publishing, TAXI and serving as a consultant
for other companies such as Transition Music and WEA Distribution.
Not unlike Che Guevara, I started teaching recording technology to
help students navigate through the DAW revolution! I have taught
music technology at several institutions including UCLA, Cal Poly
Pomona and the University of North Alabama. My Masters of Business
Administration is from Pepperdine University and I am currently
pursuing my Doctorate in Education from Tennessee State University.
I also have an ADR certificate from Pepperdine School of Law. My
research interest is in the area of recording arts curriculum
development. I want to help new recording schools choose the right
curriculum and technology for their programs.
In addition to my university teaching, I have produced, engineered
and written songs for several independent artists in Los Angeles
and Nashville as well as writing commercials. You can listen to
some of these on my website at
www.davetough.com. I also
have 2 albums of my own available on itunes. I play bass and sing
in a popular 80s cover band in Nashville called Bueller
www.buellerband.com. There
is also another Dave Tough, who is a distant relative of mine. He
was a famous jazz drummer who played with many of the big bands.
The strange thing is I didnt even know about him until I had been
playing jazz drums for a while. I am a member of The College Music
Society, National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, The
American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers, and serve
on the AES committee in Nashville, TN and the Music and
Entertainment Industry Educators Association Board. I serve as the
online Ezine editor for MEIEA. I play bass and run sound
monthly for the Crosspoint Community Church praise band in
Bellevue
