What are Belmont’s International Missions Trips like?

In addition to Fall and Spring Break Immersion trips, University Ministries partners across campus with faculty and staff to create high-impact short-term missions opportunities in locations all around the globe. Because of the nature of travel constraints in order to maximize the potential of the trip, International trips over Spring Break are focused on Central American and Caribbean countries. May and Summer trips expand to include countries all around the world.

Some of the International Missions trips offered are more immersive in nature. That is, the trip is a chance to be immersed in a local culture outside the U.S., grow in understanding of the cares and concerns of those communities, and promote fellowship and mutuality in your interactions with others. In other words, while there are opportunities to serve and complete projects, the emphasis is on learning and relationship.

Other International Missions trips have a clearer and more concrete outcome. Discipline Specific trips are led by faculty and consist of a group of all one discipline on campus, or a combination of several disciplines going to care for a community holistically. These trips embody many of the same values as immersive trips, but are more directly tied to an area of study, passion, and vocation of the student. Current discipline specific trips include students from nursing, pharmacy, physical ed, musical therapy, athletics, science, and art therapy, with many more in development.

Groups will meet before the trip a 3-4 times not just to get to know one another, but also to begin to understand the community and culture of the destination and learn how to best engage the people being served.

Do I have to be a Christian to go on an International Trip?
No! While we do want to be clear and upfront that these kinds of trips are offered as a way to partner with God in the world (often through your vocation and skill), all students should feel welcomed to sign up. The trip will include opportunities for reflection on faith, theology, and mission throughout the trip, though no one is forced to lead in any religious activity with which they aren't comfortable.

How much do International Trips cost?
International trips vary in cost from $700 to multiple thousands based on the varied travel destinations and flight costs. Be sure to review our financial policy at the bottom of this page

How do I apply and when is the deadline?

Look at the International Trips on Belmont Global to find more information about each trip and to apply for the trip you are interested in. The deadline for applying for Spring Break trips is November 12th.
