The Music Composition major builds on a strong foundation of music theory and gives extensive training in the creation of music in a wide variety of classical styles. This classical major is designed for students who wish to pursue graduate study in composition with the ultimate aim of university teaching and/or professional classical composition. *Each candidate must perform a vocal OR instrumental audition, as well as submit the below materials:

  • Two (2) scores and sound files of compositions or arrangements (do not have to be
    professionally recorded) which show current compositional activity.
  • Compositions or arrangements should be for contrasting media and of contrasting
    styles.
  • A repertory list of all student compositions with approximate dates completed
    should be submitted.
