Joy Thurmon

School of music faculty joy thurmonJoy Thurmon is the founding member of the Fibonacci 5 Quintet and has performed extensively as a solo and chamber artist throughout the United States, Canada, France, and Turkey. She received her Doctor of Music in piano and Masters degree in piano from Florida State University and was awarded a collaborative piano assistantship. Joy graduated summa cum laude from Lipscomb University with a degree in piano and minor in psychology.

Joy currently teaches at Lipscomb University and Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. Her students have been the recipients of numerous national awards including state and regional competitions. She also maintains an active schedule as an adjudicator, presenter, and masterclass teacher. Recently she served as Visiting Assistant Piano Professor at Interlochen Center for the Arts. A passionate advocate of new music, Joy has recorded works by Aaron Jay Kernis, John Corigliano, John Adams, and Ellen Taaffe Zwilich.
