Belmont's Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Program provides a graduate-level, teaching certification option for those students who have completed a BA or BFA Studio Art degree. Please note: BA Art Minors with more than 20 hours in specified art studio and art history areas will also be considered for admission to the program.

Students explore the pedagogical considerations and possibilities of teaching art through a program of tandem art education/general education course offerings and progressively designed field experiences. This program of studies culminates in a semester-long student teaching field practicum.

Belmont is proud of its proven record of excellence in teacher preparation, and many of our graduates who have remained in the Nashville area now serve as mentor teachers for the field experiences of our BFA Art Education students.

The MAT Art Education program is jointly offered through Belmont's Art and Education Departments; candidates should apply for admission to the program through the Education Department.
