Dr. Allison completed a residency in family medicine and practiced emergency medicine for over eleven years; she is board-certified in emergency medicine.  She left full-time clinical practice in 1995 to become the founding director of a physician assistant program where she became interested in problem-based learning and outcomes assessment.  She has published and presented on curricular innovations and educational outcomes, as well as medical ethics and various topics in emergency medicine and toxicology.  Dr. Allison received federal funding to develop a curriculum in cultural competence for health professions students from 2005-2009.  She received the 2008 Physician Assistant Educator of the Year Award from the Regional Physician Assistants of Central New York.

Dr. Allison joined the faculty at Belmont University School of Pharmacy in January 2009; she currently teaches the Health Assessment course for pharmacy students and will be teaching the Pathophysiology and Therapeutics courses.  Her goal is to provide the type of learning opportunities for students to develop a strong knowledge base, professional communication and practice skills, critical thinking and lifelong learning skills. 

When she is not grading papers, answering emails, preparing for class, or completing various reports, Dr. Allison enjoys watercolors, vegetarian cooking, gardening, and outdoors activities with her husband.
