Name: Katelyn Lester
Major/Minor: Music Business
Hometown: Eldersburg, Maryland
Why did you choose Belmont? Belmont is actually the only school I applied to! I fell in love with the campus when I toured, and the fact that they had a major for what I wanted to do sealed the deal.
Why did you choose to be a Tour Guide? I know that the campus of a college can really impact an individuals decision to attend or not. I have so much love for this university, and I want to share that love with prospective students and their families. If I can influence even one person to attend the school that I have come to love so much, then I’ll have accomplished something great.
What is your favorite on-campus event? The basketball games are so much fun for me. Our fans are so great, and we get so into the games; the energy is always so crazy. Plus, the championship team always promises a good game.
What is your favorite movie? How the Grinch Stole Christmas has been my favorite movie ever since I was a little girl. I will watch it at any time during the year, whether it’s July or December. I’m obsessed!
What is your favorite song & artist/band? The Fray/The Goo Goo Dolls/Ben Rector.
What would you want to be your last meal on earth? PIZZA.
What is your favorite Nashville experience? This wasn’t during the school year, but this previous summer I had the chance to attend CMA Fest which is held in Nashville. Being in this city and being constantly surrounded by country music has kind of forced me to start to enjoying it, so CMA Fest was a lot of fun! There is always something fun going on in this city, which is why I love it so much.
What is your dream career after graduating from Belmont? I would ultimately love to be a music supervisor, which is essentially putting music to movies. However, right out of college I hope to spend a few years getting to know the music industry and working in the A&R department for a record label.
What is your favorite class that you have taken at Belmont and why? My favorite class that I’ve taken thus far in my Belmont experience has been Survey of Music Business. My professor was Dwayne O’Brien, and he knows so much about the industry so he always had a lot of personal stories to apply to what we were learning.
If you could go back in time and give advice about college to 16-17 year old you, what would you say? If I could go back in time, I would tell myself to take a deep breath and to not stress. Finding a college is a stressful time, but it is ultimately all worth it in the end.
