Why did you choose Belmont? I chose Belmont because after one visit it was so obvious to me that this is exactly where I would fit in and excel. The smaller private school environment was perfect for me and I knew it would allow me to do well academically and socially.
Why did you choose to be a Tour Guide? I chose to be a tour guide because I love being able to interact with new people every week, and hear different stories while sharing a little bit of mine. It’s amazing what kind of connections you can build with people in that hour!
What is your favorite on-campus event? My favorite event on campus is the Jail Break philanthropy event that Alpha Tau Omega puts on every spring. You have the opportunity to donate money and have your friends put in “jail” until they can pay their “bail” to get out. Everyone has so much fun all day and the amount of money raised for Blood:Water Mission is astounding!
What is your favorite movie? My favorite movie is The Great Gatsby, only because it’s my life-long dream to be as classy as Gatsby is.
What is your favorite song & artist/band? I’ve been really into the band Purity Ring lately – I can listen to their music when I’m working out or studying or just relaxing at home. It’s perfect for almost every situation.
What would you want to be your last meal on earth? My last meal on earth would NEED to be “pollo ranchero” from my favorite Mexican restaurant back home. It is rice topped with chicken, all covered in cheese sauce…does it get any better?
What is your favorite Nashville experience? I have quite a few, but one of my favorites is going hiking at Radnor Lake! I think the nature / outdoor activities are sometimes overshadowed by the fact the we live in a city environment, but honestly it’s so beautiful and definitely something to take advantage of!
What is your dream career after graduating from Belmont? My dream career is becoming a pediatric physical therapist! I love kids and have found that physical therapy is something I’m so incredibly passionate about. Having the opportunity to see kids through a physical therapy routine for several years, getting to know them and watch them grow is everything I could want.
What is your favorite class that you have taken at Belmont and why? My favorite class was definitely ‘Understanding the Bible’, with Dr. Steven Reed. Taking that class with him afforded me the opportunity to learn more about God’s word, and about myself, not by sitting and reading from the bible and answering questions on a test, but through analyzing the passages and discussing the meaning behind the scripture.
If you could go back in time and give advice about college to 16-17 year old you, what would you say? I would tell myself to be so “Philip” it hurts. Being unapologetically ‘me’ has been the best thing I could have done in college. All of the friends I have made and interactions I have had have meant so much more to me because I know I can be genuine and be accepted for that. Life has very few problems when you just be yourself!
