Annual Poetry Contest

Dollar General bvl

In 2010, Belmont began partnering with Metro Nashville Public Schools to sponsor a poetry contest in conjunction with Belmont's Annual Family Literacy Day.  First through fourth grade students are invited to submit original poems based on the current year's theme.

This year's theme for the 7th Annual Contest was once again "Favorite Place" and children in first through fourth grades in Metro Public Schools were invited to compose a 12 to 16 line poem about their favorite place from literature.  Five finalists were selected by the Belmont English Club.  The Top 5 poets worked with local professional songwriters Seth Alley, Sherrié Austin, Maddie Larkin, Bill McDermott and Will Rambeaux to set their poems to music.

First through Fifth place awards were presented at Belmont's 16th Annual Family Literacy Day on April 9, 2016.
