Bill Thompson

Dr. Bill Thompson came to Belmont in 1968 and over the years has served in many capacities in this Department. He served as Chair of the Physical Education Department (now Sport Science) for 18 years and continues teaching in our department.

He coached the men's tennis team for many years, once earning Coach of the Year, honors in the Volunteer State Athletic Conference (VSAC), and earning Coach of the Year honors in the Western Division of the VSAC numerous times. Thompson also organized and coached Belmont's first Women's Tennis team and served as Acting Athletic Director for two years.

His Sailboat Cruising in the Bahamas class was Belmont's first and longest running International Studies class. This class, which was offered at least once each year for 29 years, gave many students and alumni the opportunity to learn to cruise large sailboats.

Dr. Thompson received his B.S. & M.Ed. degrees from East Texas State College and Ed.D degree from North Texas State University.

Bill serves as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Crievewood Baptist Church and his wife, Ann, also teaches Sunday School there.

In their spare time, they enjoy doting on their three grandchildren.
