Computer Proficiency Requirement

1.     What is the course number I need to register for to fulfill this requirement?
GND 1050, which is a 0-credit course; in other words, students will not be charged tuition for this course.

3.     When does this requirement have to be met?
This requirement is to be fulfilled by the end of the student’s first semester at Belmont University.

4.     What are the skills required for GND 105, and how can I go about acquiring them if I don’t have them already?
The detailed list of skills is described on general education’s computer proficiency Web site, but they include skills in the following:  Windows, Word, Excel, Power Point, Web-CT, Belmont e-mail and Computer Security and Ethics. If you haven’t already mastered these skills, you may purchase a textbook/CD-Rom package at the Belmont Bookstore (approx. $55) and self-train until you develop confidence with these skills. If you have engaged seriously in self-training, but have continued to fail the tests and are in need of one-on-one tutoring with a teacher, contact the Computer Proficiency administrator, Beth Brewster, through the Computer Proficiency Web site to set up a tutorial.

5.     Do I have to take a test to prove that I have these skills?
Yes. Actually, you have to take six tests, which should take you approximately two hours to complete. (You may sign up for only some of the tests in a given testing session or you may schedule to take all of the tests at once.) You may schedule your tests through the Computer Proficiency Web site. When you come for your tests, you must bring your Belmont picture ID card.
