Belmont University | Belief in Something Greater

It’s Belmont’s mission to prepare students to “engage and transform the world” and we’re offering our newest Bruins a unique opportunity to get started...

We believe God has equipped each of us with certain resources - including time, talents, and finance — and has entrusted us to use them in service to others. The connection of our resources and others’ needs is stewardship at its most basic and our foundation for engaging and transforming the world. It’s also a connection at the heart of a Belmont education. When we employ our resources in the services of others, we live more fully into the purposes for which we were created, and find ourselves engaged and transformed in the process. We’re convinced that an experience in this kind of stewardship is powerful and can shape a person’s disposition for life, so we’re offering the Freshman KIVA Initiative.

The Freshman KIVA Initiative is a university program in partnership with KIVA. org, a nonprofit organization that leverages the power of the Internet to provide micro-lending. This program gives freshmen a unique chance to empower others in the global community.

If you’d like to participate, we’ll set up an account in your name on as part of the Belmont Freshmen Class group, and because we’re convinced that an experience in meaningful stewardship will open your eyes to the myriad ways you might bring other resources to bear on the world’s needs, we will also put $25 in your account for you to lend, no strings attached.

Over time you can monitor the impact of your investment or add your own funds, and Belmont will match your contribution up to an additional $25. That means you can loan $25 with no personal contribution, or up to $75 with only $25 of your own investment. The stories on will impress you that the needs are great and diverse, and that $75 can literally change the world.
