Belmont's Bachelor of Arts with Music Major is a flexible degree option for students who wish to pursue innovative career paths that combine a traditional education in the liberal arts and foundational music training with knowledge and skills in a non-music area. This program can be combined with other degree and minor options in a variety of ways.
Instruments of study within the Bachelor of Arts in Music degree are Voice, Viola, Violin, Cello, Classical Bass, Harp, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Euphonium, Tuba, Percussion, Organ, Piano and Guitar.
What You'll Learn
Belmont's BA with Music Major students will increase their skills in musicianship and music theory while broadening their understanding of music history, pedagogy and literature. The degree culminates in a senior year recital in our McAfee Concert Hall.
This program focuses on classical skills and techniques.
Belmont offers a wide array of minors, so students have many options available to them for a minor and are able to take advantage of a Belmont music degree with a minor in another of Belmont's excellent programs.

Graduates of Belmont's BA with Music Major program are pursuing interdisciplinary career options.
Examples include:
- Using minors in Theater and Entrepreneurship to open a community theatrical company
- Combining study in Writing & Rhetoric to pursue a career as a music journalist

- Exploring injury prevention for musicians with a minor in Sports Medicine
Additionally, this degree facilitates the pursuit of more advanced academic training through graduate programs in a variety of music-related fields, including performance, theory, history and music education.

Curriculum
Bachelor of Arts with Music Major students complete 132 hours of coursework over the course of their undergraduate career. This includes an array of courses that gives our students the necessary training for industry success.
- BELL Core Requirements: 53 Hours (minimum)
- Musicianship Requirements: 25 Hours
- Performance Requirements: 25 Hours
- Minor Requirements: 18 Hours
- General Electives: 2 Hours (minimum)

Belmont University's School of Music has a variety of ensembles that showcase the School of Music's incredible musical diversity. From classical chamber groups to popular music ensembles, students have access to many performance opportunities that support the development of their craft.

The Belmont University School of Music is a fully accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).
All programs in the School of Music require an audition. The audition determines admission into the School of Music, which is separate from the University's admission decision.
After submitting the Application for Undergraduate Admission, applicants to the School of Music will receive an email prompting them to complete the Undergraduate School of Music Audition Registration Form in their BU4U account. They will choose their intended in-person audition date or the video audition option.
The School of Music does not prescreen for any of its programs.
