Why Major in Music with an Emphasis in Musical Theatre? 

Belmont's Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Music with an emphasis in Musical Theatre Studies is for the student seeking to be a scholar/musician who is eager to combine a rich liberal arts education with experiences in musical theatre.

This academic path is ideal for those desiring a double major. It will prepare students to be a creative, informed individual and an original and critical thinker.

What You'll Learn

Belmont's BA with Music Major students will increase their skills in musicianship and music theory while broadening their understanding of music history, pedagogy and musical theatre literature.

Belmont offers a wide array of minors, so students have many options available to them for a minor and are able to take advantage of a Belmont music degree with a minor in another of Belmont's excellent programs.

Program Details

Curriculum

Bachelor of Arts with an Emphasis in Musical Theatre students complete 132 hours of coursework over the course of their undergraduate career. This includes an array of courses that gives our students the necessary training for industry success.

  • BELL Core Requirements: 53 Hours (minimum)
  • Music Core Requirements: 25 Hours
  • Applied Voice/Ensemble Requirements: 14 Hours
  • Theatre/Dance Requirements: 18 Hours
  • Minor Requirements: 18 Hours
  • General Electives: 7 Hours (minimum)

The Belmont University School of Music is a fully accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).

All programs in the School of Music require an audition. The audition determines admission into the School of Music, which is separate from the University's admission decision.

After submitting the Application for Undergraduate Admission, applicants to the School of Music will receive an email prompting them to complete the Undergraduate School of Music Audition Registration Form in their BU4U account. They will choose their intended in-person audition date or the video audition option.

The School of Music does not prescreen for any of its programs.
