The Music Performance Major is tailored for students who exhibit exceptional potential as performers in their principal applied area. This degree is a Classical performance degree.
Instruments of study within the Bachelor of Music in Music Performance are: Voice, Viola, Violin, Cello, Upright Bass, Harp, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Euphonium, Tuba, Percussion, Organ, Piano, and Guitar.
This classical program provides training for those planning careers as professional performers and/or studio teachers. It is the best preparation for graduate study with emphasis in performance.
At Belmont, Music Performance Majors have numerous performance opportunities:
Class-specific performances:
- Weekly 50-minute lessons and performance seminars
- Jury Exams at the end of each semester
- Performance opportunities on Departmental Recitals
- 25-minute Junior Recital in McAfee Concert Hall
- 50-minute Senior Recital in McAfee Concert Hall
Performances by audition:
- Roles in Belmont’s Opera, University Symphony, Jazz Band, and/or Wind Ensemble
- Master Classes with guest artist/teachers
- Ensemble and solo possibilities with choral and instrumental ensembles
- Instrumental Chamber Music experiences
- Concerto/Aria Concert with University Symphony Orchestra
- Classical Singers Recital and Instrumental Honors Recital
- Options for Studies Abroad with teachers at major music schools in Europe
Knowledge in the performance area is enhanced through courses in pedagogy and literature in the student's performance medium.
