Collective Mural Project for the 2010 Humanities Symposium

Jairo Prado community mural project
Colombian-born and long-time Nashville resident, artist Jairo Prado, will lead a group of community members and Belmont University students in the creation of an 8’ by 16’ collective mural representing the theme of the 2010 School of Humanities Symposium: Giving Shape to Airy Nothings: Inventing Communities, Creating Identities. Please join us for the following events.

The Opening of the Art Exhibit

On September 9, 2010, artist Jairo Prado will give a public lecture/visual media presentation titled: “The Art of Jairo Prado: Inventing Communities and Creating Identities."  The presentation will be held in the Bunch Library Multi-Media Hall (from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.) and it will be followed immediately by a reception in the Leu Gallery Foyer (5:00 to 6:00 p.m.) to celebrate the opening of Prado’s art exhibition on campus. Mural Painting Sessions

From September 13 through September 24, 2010 (Monday through Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Fridays from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.), artist Jairo Prado will lead Belmont University students and community members in mural painting sessions to be held in the basement studio classroom and outdoor patio area of the Leu Center for the Visual Arts.
