Biography

Jon Lechner has been an Instructor of Audio Engineering Technology at Belmont since 2009. He holds a Master of Music degree from Tennessee State University and a Bachelor of Music with a concentration in Recording Technology from the University of Wisconsin, where he also minored in Radio, Television, and Film.

Jon’s industry experience includes roles as Recording Studio Manager at Triad Recording and Staff Engineer at Treasure Isle Recorders in Nashville. In these positions, he worked with iconic artists and producers such as Michael McDonald, Lonestar, Michael Omartian, Alison Krauss, Whitecross, and Joan Baez. Jon also has extensive experience in sound design for visual media, engineering live performance and concept videos for Nashville-based artists, as well as industrial videos for companies in Nashville and Wisconsin.

Alongside his engineering career, Jon and his wife, Amy, were full-time touring musicians, performing across the U.S. and internationally aboard major cruise lines. Jon also served as Bandmaster for Disney Cruise Line, where he directed and oversaw the music department.

Before joining Belmont, Jon taught at Tennessee State University and the School of Audio Engineering (S.A.E.), where he developed curricula, managed cutting-edge recording facilities, and mentored students in the technical and creative aspects of audio production. Throughout his teaching career, he has taught courses in sound design, live sound reinforcement, digital audio workstations, music theory, MIDI, large-format recording consoles, and analog tape recording.

In addition to his teaching and professional accomplishments, Jon remains an active musician. He performs regularly with artists and corporate bands throughout Nashville and the Southeast and has opened for Craig Morgan, Pat Green, Rick Springfield, The Cars, and Ambrosia.
