Biography
Michael Janas joined Belmont University in 2002 as the historic RCA Studio B Manager, coordinating the renovation and operations of the famous studio in a unique partnership with the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum while also teaching as an adjunct. In 2007 Michael was hired as a full-time faculty member at Belmont and appointed the Director of Recording Studio Operations where he oversaw the growth of audio facilities and supervised the renovations of the Quonset Hut Studio and Columbia Studio A.
In 2016 Michael was appointed as Chair of the Audio Engineering Technology which coincided with the first cohort of the Master of Science in Audio Engineering. He continued to coordinate and help develop new areas of curriculum while expanding the faculty and facilities to meet increasing enrollments and the need for additional opportunities for students. In 2024 Michael stepped down as Chair to focus on academic pursuits.
Prior to Belmont, Michael had an extensive career in professional audio, both in live concert sound and in recording studios. As a tour manager and front-of-house mixer, he toured the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Japan with artists such as Leon Russell and BR5-49, as well as with Nashville rock legends Jason and the Scorchers and Webb Wilder. During a 12-year tenure at The Castle Recording Studio, Michael also engineered recording for a variety of artists including Lynyrd Skynyrd, Emmylou Harris, and Jason and the Scorchers as well as three Grammy-nominated recordings for BR5-49.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Kansas and a Master of Education from Belmont University.
