Belmont is well represented in this year’s Power 100, the Nashville Business Journal’s annual lists of the most powerful people in the city’s business community. With several categories of movers and shakers, the list is grouped by connectors, dealmakers, disrupters, heavy hitters, industry giants and trendsetters — the 100 most powerful people in Nashville business.
Connectors: Alumnus Harry Allen, co-founder and chief relationship officer of Studio Bank, and former Belmont board member Agenia Clark, longtime president and CEO of the Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee and incoming president of Fisk University, are included in the Connectors group. NBJ writes that this group of people have a wide network across industries, and “they’re matchmakers, bringing together powerful people to get things done.”
Heavy Hitters: Mike Curb, founder and chairman of Curb Records and for whom Belmont’s Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business is named; Tommy Frist Jr., co-founder and former CEO of HCA Healthcare and for whom Belmont’s new Frist College of Medicine is named; and Milton Johnson, former chairman and CEO of HCA Healthcare and chair of the Belmont Board of Trustees, are among those listed in the Heavy Hitters group. NBJ describes those on the list as the biggest names in the town, the legacy players and the longstanding members of Nashville’s business elite.
Industry Giants: Included in the Industry Giants group is Belmont President Dr. Greg Jones. These individuals are the executives leading the most powerful companies in town, be it for their high-profile reputations or top-of-the-market success. NBJ writes, “Since being appointed to lead Nashville’s fifth-largest university in 2021, Jones has pushed innovation. Belmont has announced multiple major investment projects over the past few years. Under Jones’ leadership, the educational institution continues to evolve and expand its presence in the region.”
Trendsetters: Alumnus EJ Reed, co-founder of Slim and Husky’s Pizza Beeria, and Belmont board member Burke Nihill, president and CEO of the Tennessee Titans, are included in the Trendsetters group. NBJ describes individuals on this list as among the city’s most creative and leading the business community with new ideas. The list explains, “They’re big-picture thinkers, with a 30,000-foot view of Nashville. They’re tastemakers, driving what’s hot in the new Nashville.”
