MacLean acknowledged for her legacy of kindness, service
Belmont proudly recognized Jenni MacLean, budget manager for the Lila D. Bunch Library, as the recipient of the 2024 Gabhart Award. Since joining Belmont in 2006, MacLean has exemplified dedication, kindness and a commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive community.
“In my many years at Belmont, I have seen the University go through beautiful changes and growth,” MacLean commented. “I've always been so proud to be associated with this organization, and for Belmont to recognize me for my contribution is extremely humbling.”
The illustrious Gabhart Award is named in honor of Dr. Herbert C. Gabhart, who dedicated 50 years of service to the University as president and chancellor. The Gabhart Award is the highest honor presented to a staff person, honoring each year’s recipient for their significant achievements, commitment and service to Belmont.
In her role, MacLean oversees financial planning for both the Bunch Library and the Medical Library, and she manages the acquisition of essential print and electronic monographs to support student and faculty research. One nominator highlighted her vital contributions stating, “Without the work that Jenni does, any form of student or faculty research on this campus would come to a screeching halt.”
Beyond her professional duties, MacLean is committed to collaboration and community building on and off campus. Through her love of crafts, she hosts regular gatherings of the Lila Loopers Crochet and Knitting Club, creating opportunities for faculty and staff to connect. She also contributes to the broader Nashville community, playing cello at weddings and other local events.
MacLean expressed gratitude to her family for their enduring love and support, her colleagues who she considers incredible teammates and friends as well as her managers during her time as an employee, including Tim Gmeiner, Lina Sheahan, Courtney Fuson and Sue Maszaros.
“I am also inspired by our student assistants as well as our patrons that we serve across campus,” she added. “It is a joy and a blessing to work with them all each day, and I sincerely thank Belmont for that amazing opportunity.”
Her nominators praised MacLean’s unwavering compassion and grace, referencing her ability to uplift and inspire those around her.
One remarked, “She is the kindest and most compassionate person I know. She cares deeply about her colleagues and students, embodying the spirit of Dr. Herbert C. Gabhart through her dedication, humility and resilience.”
Reflecting on her impact, another nominator quoted 1 Corinthians 13. “Love is patient and kind. Love does not envy or boast. It is not proud or easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Jenni exemplifies the love of Christ in her actions and character.”
This year’s Gabhart Award first runner up was Emily Kynerd, assistant to the dean of O’More College of Architecture & Design, and the second runner up was Michael Waters, associate director of admissions.
