Belmont's Fisher Center for the Performing Arts was the perfect rehearsal venue for Cirque du Soleil's new “Songblazers,” a theatrical production celebrating the art of songwriting in country music with a blend of acrobatic and musical performance.
Rehearsing at a venue in Music City and on a campus renowned for its songwriting programs was the ideal environment. The production began rehearsals at the Fisher Center in mid-May, utilizing the state-of-the-art facilities for a 30-day rehearsal period. Belmont also provided housing and meals for the 80 performers and crew on campus.
Laura-Ann Chong, senior publicist for Songblazers, expressed gratitude saying, "Being at the Fisher Center has allowed our cast and crew to really envision what Songblazers will look like as we take the show on the road."
A special preview event June 5 welcomed 50 members of the press to campus for an exclusive preview of the show. The event included welcome remarks from show director and writer Amy Tinkham and director of creation Daniel Ross, followed by a 15-minute preview performance and opportunities for interviews and photos.
"The warm welcome we received from Belmont during our rehearsals at the Fisher Center was a blessing for the Songblazers project,” Ross said. “The theater itself was a truly inspiring space, and the hospitality of staff was incredibly comforting. Opening the show in Nashville of course means a lot to us because of what Nashville represents in the culture of country music.”
"Songblazers is our love letter to country music,” added Tinkham. “We took a deep dive into all the themes -- adversity, love, heartbreak, hard work, good times and bad – and how all of that connects with the tapestry of sound, heritage and storytelling that is country music.”
Belmont was proud to serve as the rehearsal home for this unique Cirque du Soleil production celebrating the heart of country music songwriting. The Songblazers tour launches in Nashville at TPAC on July 2 and will continue across the United States.
