CEO Emeritus, PENCIL Foundation
Angie Underhill Adams recently retired from her full-time role as a Nashville nonprofit leader after more than 35 years of service to our community. Her last role was the CEO of PENCIL Foundation, where she spent eight years leading the organization. Angie and the PENCIL Board and Staff worked very collaboratively and transparently to manage her exit to ensure a seamless transition for the organization and its new CEO.
With a degree in Accounting from Belmont University, Angie began her career as an auditor with Deloitte but quickly realized that her heart was in serving the Nashville nonprofit community. She provided executive, financial, and administrative services to a variety of nonprofit organizations both as a management level staff member and a freelance consultant and trainer. Along the way, she also served as an adjunct faculty member at Belmont, chaired multiple nonprofit boards, and served on several other boards. Currently she serves on the board of The Rotary Club of Nashville, mentors a working artist through the Arts and Business Council, and regularly volunteers with Second Harvest Food Bank. Angie is now in her 37th year of dance studies and continues to take a variety of dance classes each week.
In her retirement Angie plans to relocate to Austin, TX after her daughter graduates from MNPS in May 2024. Once settled in Austin, Angie will delve back into doing project work with nonprofits who want support for their new management team leaders, assistance with executive transitions, and temporary CFO support. She acknowledges a slight addiction to nonprofit leadership!
