Biography
Dr. Peter Lamothe is an Associate Professor of Music in the Belmont University School of Music, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Music History. He received his Ph.D. in Musicology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
His main research area is incidental music in France between 1864 and 1914. His research interests also include aspects of genre and reception history. He has published on Jules Massenet’s incidental music for Leconte de Lisle’s play Les Erinnyes, and has presented his research at conferences in the United States and the United Kingdom. These presentations include research on Les Erinnyes, as well as on Gabriel Fauré’s music for the play Prométhée, Claude Debussy’s Le Martyre de saint Sébastien, Claude Terrasse’s music for Ubu roi, music at the Théâtre de l’Odéon of Paris under the directorship of Paul Porel, and the reception of Richard Strauss’s Salome in Paris. Dr. Lamothe is currently at work on an edition of Massenet’s music for the play Les Érinnyes.
