Dr. Thomas Burns is the provost of Belmont University. He acts as the university’s chief academic officer, providing visionary direction and serving the academic mission of Belmont University.
The office of the provost reports to Belmont President Dr. Bob Fisher and serves in his absence as the chief executive officer. Dr. Burns has broad responsibilities for planning, development and administration.
With his staff, Dr. Burns oversees all of Belmont's academic programs and student services.
"A growing university like Belmont has a lot of moving parts, and because we are a teaching and learning community, many of those moving parts come under my purview as provost. This means I get to initiate changes that -- I hope -- will improve the way our community functions, thus making us more effective and the work we do more meaningful.
As provost, my role is to help keep a commitment to quality education central to every other activity I touch from admissions through matriculation and registration through graduation.
I find meaning in the job of provost because of the possibility and potential to do good work while serving our students."
