Belmont Lands a Spot on U.S. News and World Report’s List of Best Psychology Programs

Belmont University’s psychology program was recently lauded when U.S. News and World Report released its 2023 rankings of Psychology Programs, a tool to help prospective students better understand the educational landscape and identify potential programs – adding Belmont to the list of 470 surveyed schools.

Assistant Professor Dr. Michael Oliver, Department of Psychological Science and Neuroscience, said, “Making the U.S. News and World Report list of best psychology programs for the first time is a wonderful accomplishment that serves as a testament to the departmental culture we have developed here at Belmont. We have a tremendous community of faculty, staff and students who are actively engaged in research, service and advancing the field of psychology as a whole.”

Belmont's efforts have also been recognized by Psi Chi, the International Honors Society in Psychology, who selected the University as Chapter of the Year in 2019, demonstrating how impactful students and faculty at Belmont have been in promoting psychological science and community engagement.

“Our small class sizes allow for relationships to be built between faculty and students where we prioritize interdisciplinary training and foster creativity through self-directed learning. While we value theoretical knowledge, we emphasize hands-on learning through upper division labs that utilize equipment typically reserved for graduate level work (e.g., EEG and fNiRS),” Oliver added. “We hope to continue to build leaders and creative problem-solvers who can go out and make a difference in the world.

These unique opportunities make Belmont students top candidates for highly competitive programs, who continue to demonstrate high levels of success post-graduation.
