Honey has served as interim dean of the College since August 2023 and began her tenure at Belmont in July 2022 as associate dean of nursing and executive director of partners in nursing.

Honey brings extensive experience to Belmont as a certified pediatric and family nurse practitioner, professor and academic leader. Throughout her career, Honey has led and developed multiple innovative academic programs and community partnerships focused on improving rural and underserved patient health outcomes at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah and The College of Saint Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota.

“Julie has provided incredible leadership and vision for the College since her appointment as interim dean in August,” said Belmont University President Dr. Greg Jones. “Her commitment to nursing education and innovatively addressing health care disparities aligns seamlessly with Belmont’s mission. With her guidance, I’m confident the College will continue to thrive, making a lasting impact on nursing education and health care outcomes for people all over. I’m grateful for her leadership and excited for what is ahead for the Inman College of Nursing.”

Under her leadership, the Inman College of Nursing last fall established the Center for Nursing Innovation, a pioneering initiative in Tennessee that aims to reshape nursing education and healthcare through philanthropy, research and outreach.

“The impact of a Belmont nurse reaches far beyond patient care. For more than 50 years, we’ve trained our students to be change agents, working at the intersection of science, data and innovation to improve health care and its delivery. With graduates on the frontlines of every aspect of health care, we are addressing challenges and disparities that exist within our health system starting in the classroom,” said Honey. “As the industry evolves, I am thrilled to lead the Inman College of Nursing at Belmont as we continue to develop and train excellent, compassionate nurses.”

In addition to her contributions to higher education, Honey co-founded Summit Pediatric Pulmonology, LLC, a nurse practitioner-owed pediatric asthma practice in collaboration with Columbia University Medical Center where she served as chief financial officer.

Honey earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of North Dakota. She also holds a Master of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Georgetown University.
