Impact Where It Matters Most

Law students serve the public interest through pro bono work

Without detracting from a rigorous education and career preparedness, Belmont's College of Law is successfully cultivating a strong value for service and community outreach with each cohort.    

In 2023, law students assisted with expunging more than 400 non-conviction charges, 28 legal name changes and more than 20 wills and powers of attorneys.  

The College of Law’s focus on public interest seamlessly aligns with Pathway 1 of the Institution’s aspirational aim to be the model for whole-person formation that teaches and develops people of character, purpose, wisdom and a transformational mindset.  

Ginny Blake serves as a public interest coordinator for the College of Law, connecting students with opportunities to participate in public interest work. 

“Our law students aren’t just studying the law,” said Blake. “They are offering free legal assistance and making real impact where it matters most. Here at Belmont, it's not just about books and classrooms — it's about rolling up sleeves and bringing justice to our neighbors.” 

Participation in public interest work continues to grow with each new cohort. Class of 2024 has completed 8,839 pro bono hours, and the Class of 2025 has completed 4,621 pro bono hours so far. 

Along with hands-on experience, legal services clinics allow students to see the impact of their work first-hand as the clinics provide services directly and in-person. The College of Law partners with several entities to provide clinics, including:
