What is the difference between personal training and physical therapy?

In order to provide the best client experience that we can, it is important to identify our personal trainers’ scope of services. At Belmont University, we pride ourselves on being a growth centered program for trainers and clients, alike. We define our certified personal trainers as fitness professionals who have met the requirements established by a NCCA-accredited, national certifying organization. They assist clients by developing and implementing fitness programs for clients who have no apparent physical limitation or who have received medical clearance to exercise. With that being said, our trainers are not equipped to provide physical therapy – treatment of individuals of all ages who have medical problems or other health-related conditions, illnesses, or injuries that limits their abilities to move and perform functional activities as well as they would like in their daily lives. While these positions are similar, they differ in their scopes of practice, educational requirements, licensure, and work environments.
