Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business

Our History

Since 1973, the heart of music row has flowed through Belmont. Beginning with a music business program designed to prepare people for operational, administrative, creative and technical careers in the music industry, Belmont has expanded its degree programs to encompass all aspects of the entertainment industry. The Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business was established in 2003 and is a world leader in music business and entertainment industry education.

Organized in 1916, AACSB International accreditation represents the highest standard of achievement for business schools worldwide.

Fewer than 5% of the world’s business schools are able to adhere to standards that result in AACSB accreditation of their business education programs. A much smaller group, fewer than 1% of business schools (178 schools) worldwide, have earned AACSB accreditation for both their business and accounting programs. Belmont University is among the elite group that holds AACSB accreditation in both areas.

Belmont initially earned accreditation for business and accounting in 2002 and has maintained this distinction through periodic reviews to ensure that we continue to meet AACSB standards. The most recent examination in spring 2012 resulted in our Maintenance of Accreditation.

AACSB International membership does not confer AACSB International accreditation and should not be interpreted as achieving accreditation.

To achieve AACSB accreditation, business programs must satisfy the expectations of a wide range of quality standards relating to curriculum, faculty resources, admissions, degree requirements, library and computer facilities, financial resources, and intellectual climate that are all mission-linked. Having continued to meet accreditation standards, Belmont is recognized among the "The Best Business Schools in the World."


ABET LogoBelmont University’s bachelor’s degree program in Audio Engineering Technology has been accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET, Inc.), the recognized accreditor of college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering and technology. ABET accreditation demonstrates a program’s commitment to providing its students with a quality education.

This is the first program focused specifically on audio engineering to be fully accredited under ABET standards, marking a significant accomplishment for the Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business (CEMB) and Belmont University as well as the audio profession.

Accreditation is a voluntary, peer-review process that requires programs to undergo comprehensive, periodic evaluations. The evaluations—conducted by teams of volunteer professionals working in industry, government, academe and private practice within the ABET disciplines—focus on program curricula, faculty, facilities, institutional support and other important areas.

One of the key elements of ABET accreditation is the requirement that programs continuously improve the quality of education provided. As part of this continuous improvement requirement, programs set specific, measurable goals for their students and graduates, assess their success at reaching those goals and improve their programs based on the results of their assessment.

In addition to providing colleges and universities a structured mechanism to assess, evaluate and improve their programs, accreditation also helps students and their parents choose quality college programs, enables employers and graduate schools to recruit graduates they know are well-prepared and is used by registration, licensure and certification boards to screen applicants.

An internationally respected organization with some 1,500 volunteers, ABET has set the higher-educational standards in its fields for nearly 75 years.
