Biography

Dr. Danielle Esler, MBBS (Hons) B Med Sci (Hons), MPH, FRACGP, FAFPHM, is a distinguished public health physician and general practitioner with a robust background in health systems leadership and a commitment to rural and remote healthcare.  She has previously served as the Deputy Chief Health Officer of Australia’s Northern Territory, where she was instrumental in providing strategic public health and policy guidance for the Northern Territory Department of Health.  

Championing health systems improvement at the clinical - public health interface her career has emphasized re-orienting health systems to optimize the health of vulnerable population groups. 

In addition to her clinical and public health roles, Dr. Esler is an active medical educator, researcher, digital health and health technology advisor. 

Special interest areas include disaster preparedness and response, addressing the social determinants of health and addressing the burden of non-communicable disease on the population. 

Dr. Esler brings her extensive expertise in public health policy, health systems governance, and global health to the academic setting, enriching the department's mission to advance health systems science education and research.
