She was the co-creator of key population health programs for the system spanning telemedicine, care management, community health and hospital at home, including establishing the governance structure to ensure quality, scale, and value.

Based on her excellent leadership, followership and proven results, Katie was tapped to lead critical enterprise-wide strategic committees for Atrium Health such as clinical service line growth, focused on unifying thousands of employed and affiliated physicians, to increase market share. It resulted in sustained double-digit growth and multimillion net revenue realization. Katie served for 17 years on the Board of Directors of Carolina Center for Specialty Surgery, a joint venture ambulatory surgery center between Atrium Health and Carolina Neurosurgery and Spine Associates with a budget of $12M. Katie served several terms as the Board Chair of MEDIC, the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Provider for Mecklenburg County, responsible for CEO performance of an Agency of  550 employees, a budget of $75M and annual 911 call volume of 125K. In addition to MEDIC, Katie has served on over eight nonprofit boards, including past chair of Leadership Charlotte, Healthy Charlotte, Loaves and Fishes, and the Mecklenburg County Forensic Medicine Board.

An accomplished author, Katie penned the best-selling book, Both/And: Medicine and Public Health Together, to illuminate the value of partnership between public health and medicine, demonstrating measurable return on investment. She is the Founder of the Whole Person Index (WPI), a standardized, evidence-based, predictive risk assessment across all health drivers (clinical, social, genetic and behavior), prioritizing action for individual, population, and community. The novel tool is being used at employers, payers, and healthcare systems to achieve better health at a lower cost.
