Biography

Dr. Sherif Sakla was born in Giza, Egypt on August 21, 1955. After completing medical school at Cairo University in June 1979, Dr. Sakla migrated to the United States where he completed a Pediatric internship at Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans in 1982. He then completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at LSU School of Medicine in 1984, rounding out his final year of the program as the Chief Resident. Dr. Sakla would go on to practice and teach at Charity Hospital of New Orleans, practice at Mercy and Baptist Hospitals of New Orleans as Medical Director of the Emergency Department, as well as serving as Clinical Associate Professor at LSU School of Medicine and Tulane Medical School.

In 1996, Dr. Sakla graduated from New Orleans Loyola University School of Law. He would continue to practice both medicine and law, opening his first law practice in 1997. In 2000, Dr. Sakla founded The Sakla Law Firm, APLC, and continues to practice law as the President and Partner of the firm.

Other positions Dr. Sakla has held over his career include Assistant Coroner in Orleans and Terrebonne Parish, Chairman of the EMS Counsel of Terrebonne Parish, Chairman of the Emergency Medicine and Hyperbaric Department at Terrebonne General Medical Center, and Associate Director of the Combined Emergency Department of Memorial Medical Center Uptown and Mid-City Campuses of New Orleans.

In 2008, Dr. Sakla settled a whistle-blower claim against Merk Pharmaceutical on behalf of Dr. William St. John LaCorte and in 2015 he settled a second whistle-blower claim against Wyeth Pharmaceutical. Most recently in 2022, Dr. Sakla settled another whistle-blower claim against Zyno Medical, LLC.

The Sakla Law Firm represents patients as well as physicians in various capacities. Dr. Sakla believes he has never stopped serving and helping his patients, whether it be as a practitioner in the Emergency Room or in his law practice.

Dr. Sakla currently lives in New Orleans with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
