Biography

Emma Cate is the Assistant Director for the Office of Study Abroad (OSA). She works with faculty, students, and study abroad partners on the academic side of program planning. Emma Cate has spent six years living and working abroad in Germany, Austria, England, and Scotland. She is a Tennessee native who has spent the last several years living in the United Kingdom working on her postgraduate degrees.

She holds an M.A. in Cross-Cultural Communication and Applied Linguistics from Newcastle University in England. She has spent the last four years at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland (ancient home of golf and Prince William’s alma mater) working on her Ph.D. in Qualitative Social Psychology, which will be completed this academic year.

Emma Cate has been to 14 countries and visits as many museums, cathedrals and coffee shops as possible while abroad. She speaks more than a little German and believes everyone should visit the York Minster at least once in their life. Her favorite place is Glencoe in the Scottish Highlands, and her favorite German word is “gemütlichkeit.”
