Biography
Dr. Zhenyu “Mark” Zhang is an Assistant Professor of Accounting in the Jack C. Massey College of Business at Belmont University. He joined Belmont in August 2023. Dr. Zhang received his Ph.D. in Accounting and Information Systems from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), where he received numerous scholarship rewards and grants. Dr. Zhang’s research interests relate broadly to the field of corporate governance and focus on how managers, organizations, and regulators’ collaborative behavior influences the firm’s financial reporting quality, culture, and information environment.
Prior to his doctoral studies, Dr. Zhang accumulated extensive professional experience in accounting system implementation, business intelligence, and counterparty credit risk evaluation. He served as a liaison and technical resource among government-sponsored entities (GSEs), regulatory agencies, and consulting firms during his tenure at Ernst & Young, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac. Dr. Zhang is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Virginia.
