Biography

Dr. Robbie Matz joined the Department of Sport Administration as an Assistant Professor of Sport Administration in the Fall of 2021. He earned a Ph.D. in Kinesiology (Sport Management & Policy) from University of Georgia with graduate certificates in Interdisciplinary Qualitative Studies and Nonprofit Management, a M.A. in Kinesiology (Sport Management) from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), and a B.A. in Communication with a minor in Sport Management from University of California, Santa Barbara.

Prior to joining the faculty at Belmont University, Dr. Matz served as an Adjunct Faculty at CSULB and University of California, Irvine, where he taught a variety of courses including Facilities & Personnel Management, Research Methods & Statistical Analysis, and Sport Management Essentials. He also has a variety of industry experience, including working as a Program Manager for the Southern California Golf Association, a Senior Evaluator for a research and evaluation consulting firm, and is the Managing Partner of Sport Business Intelligence, a sport consulting company that focuses on the economic impact of sporting events.

Dr. Matz’s research interests include amateur and professional golf, with an emphasis on women’s golf. He is a published author and has presented research at sport management conferences around the world including Europe, Canada, and Australia. He has served on multiple committees for the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport and is a founding board member for the Graduate Program in Sport Management Alumni Network at CSULB.

Born and raised in Southern California, Dr. Matz enjoys playing traveling, playing golf, and spending time with his wife Amber, and their dog, Schmee.
