Biography
Ryan Greenawalt is an Instructor of Communication Studies and the director of Belmont's nationally ranked Speech and Debate Program. Having coached the team to numerous state and national titles over the span of fifteen years, Ryan is passionate about helping students find their unique voices and giving them the confidence to be agents of change and hope in their communities.
Ryan primarily teaches public speaking classes and loves being an instructor in the BELL Core. He strives to demystify public speaking -a high source of anxiety for most - and create a welcoming environment where students feel free to question, experiment, and hone the way that they communicate. Ryan's academic interests lie in performance studies and how the stories that we tell (and the stories told to us) shape culture, society, and reality.
In addition to his higher education experience, Ryan works professionally in music. He has performed on stages across the globe as a vocalist and actor. He is also a session singer and vocal coach in Nashville. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, playing and watching sports, and dreaming about owning a dog rescue one day.
