Sarah J Dietsche received her Ph.D. in historical musicology, with an emphasis in American music and music education from the University of Memphis. She also holds a Master's and Bachelor's degree in jazz voice performance. Dr. Dietsche’s research projects regarding music and conflict, African American music, and American popular music have resulted in publications in Notes, Quarterly Journal of the Music Library Association and the SAGE International Encyclopedia of Music and Culture as well as presentations at several regional and international conferences. She has previously served as an adjunct professor at Rhodes College and the University of Memphis.
Dr. Dietsche is also the owner of Dietsche Music Studio which serves approximately 40 private piano and voice students in Memphis and surrounding areas. She also performs regularly as a freelance singer/pianist.
On a more personal note, Dr. Dietsche is originally from Eau Claire, Wisconsin where she grew up skiiing, camping, and boating. She currently lives in Memphis, TN with her partner, Krista, two teenage boys, Andrew and Thomas, her dog, Lulu, and cat, Murphy. Dr. Dietsche enjoys being outdoors, especially hiking, swimming, kayaking, going to the dog park, and drinking coffee on the deck.
