Biography
Dr. Stephen Shin serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Sport Administration. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Sport Administration from the University of New Mexico, a Master of Science in Sport Administration from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and a Bachelor of Physical Education in Sports and Leisure Studies from Yong In University.
Before joining the faculty at Belmont, Dr. Shin was an Assistant Professor at Northern State University in South Dakota and a full-time Instructor at East Tennessee State University. He has taught a diverse range of courses, including Organizational Behavior and Leadership in Sport, Financial Aspects of Sport, Sport in Society, Globalization of Sport, and Research Methods in Sport. Additionally, Dr. Shin actively participates in the Christ-Centered Learning Mentors (CCLM) program focused on Faith-Informed Teaching.
His research interests center on organizational behavior and leadership, as well as diversity and inclusion within intercollegiate athletics from a socio-cultural perspective. Dr. Shin has presented his work at numerous national and international conferences, such as the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport (NASSS), the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM), and the Applied Sport Management Association (ASMA).
Originally from Seoul, South Korea, Dr. Shin lives with his wife, Joy, their two teenage children, Saimee and Caleb, and an adopted puppy, Alfred. He is actively involved as a cell group leader in his local church. In his leisure time, he enjoys playing golf.
