Biography
Tom Carr is an American born in Spain with formative years growing up in the American South. Now based in Barcelona, Spain, Tom is a contemporary painter and sculptor who gained notoriety for his architectural installations, montages, and the concepts of space and time. More recently, his work has focused on curvilinear forms in the study of the balance between concept and form using three-dimensional forms and light. His art can be found across the globe.
Tom has over 20 years of teaching experience. Among many other accolades, he recently received a Diploma al Mèrit Cultural (Cultural Merit Diploma) for his lifetime contribution to the city of Tarragona.
Tom Carr will be our inaugural Artist-in-Residence for the Fall 2023 semester. He will be teaching a 3D Special Topics course focused on Light as Sculpture, as well as 3D Principles of Design and Advanced Studio. An exhibition of his work that he created while at Belmont will be in the Leu Art Gallery and he will give presentations in English and Spanish as a part of our Creative Professional Lecture Series.
