Belmont University today announced the appointment of Brad Gioia, former headmaster at Montgomery Bell Academy, as the University's first Educator-in-Residence, effective Aug. 1.
President Greg Jones expressed his enthusiasm for the appointment and said, "We are honored to welcome Brad to Belmont. His impressive track record of educational excellence and leadership at Montgomery Bell Academy will undoubtedly enrich the academic experiences of our students and faculty and enhance our overall mission."
As Belmont's Educator-in-Residence, Gioia’s contributions will encompass teaching, advising and leading professional learning opportunities. Moreover, he will actively foster connections within independent schools, both locally and on a national and international scale.

"Having dedicated my career to education and student development, I look forward to leveraging my experiences and expertise to support Belmont's mission and foster character, purpose and transformational mindset among students. Gioia has held pivotal leadership positions, including Director of Admission and Financial Aid at Darlington School and Headmaster at both Darlington and Montgomery Bell Academy, schools nationally recognized for their outstanding educational standards and achievements. He is a passionate advocate for lifelong learning, holding degrees from esteemed institutions: an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from the University of the South, Sewanee, Tenn.; a Master of Education in Administration from West Georgia College, Carrollton, Ga.; a Master of Arts in English from Middlebury College, Middlebury, Vt.; and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of the South.
“With a remarkable career spanning 29 years as Headmaster at Montgomery Bell Academy, Mr. Gioia brings a legacy of tremendous success and educational leadership to his new role at Belmont,” said Dr. Jim McIntyre, dean of the College of Education and assistant provost for academic excellence.
In addition to teaching and advising, Gioia will be engaged in university-wide efforts around student formation, character and purpose as well as spearhead special projects, like coordinating a high-profile and mission-aligned lecture series to further strengthen Belmont's commitment to academic innovation and community engagement.
