First-time bar pass rate rises from 93.4% to 94.7%, second consecutive year for 100% out-of-state bar pass rate
Belmont College of Law’s Class of 2024 earned a 94.7% pass rate for first-time test takers of the July 2024 Tennessee Bar Exam, increasing by more than 1% from last year’s 93.4% pass rate and surpassing the state’s overall pass rate of 72%.
Additionally, students in the Class of 2024 took the bar exam in 12 different states and had an outstanding 100% pass rate. This is the second consecutive year for Belmont Law to earn a perfect out-of-state pass rate. Graduates sat for the bar exam in Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, Montana, North Carolina, New York and South Carolina.
“Our success reflects the high quality of our program, students and faculty, coupled with our culture of responsibility, discipline and service,” said Belmont College of Law Dean Alberto Gonzales. “Success on the bar exam demonstrates that our graduates have a basic foundation of knowledge and judgment to advocate on behalf of people in need. Success in their legal career will ultimately depend on their commitment, integrity and hard work.”
This year’s results further distinguish the enduring success of Belmont Law’s graduating classes whose pass rates are consistently above 90% on the bar exam in Tennessee.
Belmont remains a leader in high bar passage among the 103 law schools represented at the July 2024 Bar Exam. The College boasts the second highest bar pass rate in the state. According to Belmont's 2023 Career Outcomes report, more than 91% of Belmont Law graduates are employed, representing positions in private practice, government, business and judicial clerkships.
“The consistent high achievement on the bar exam is due to a combination of excellent teaching by our faculty, a modern curriculum and most importantly hard-working students,” said Associate Dean for Student Services Andy Matthews.
The comprehensive results underscore Belmont Law’s strong academic program and its students' preparedness for legal practice across diverse jurisdictions.
“We admit students who we believe will be successful in our program and in passing the bar exam if the student does the work,” Gonzales added. “We have a demonstrated record for employers of successfully preparing the next generation of leaders in the bar and in life.”
